The interest of Serbian economy is to harmonize public procurement procedure with European tradition, to increase the transparency of the procedures and to strengthen the competition, which is the prerequisite for market economy and sustainable development, emphasized Dusanka Samardzic, Advisor to the President of Chamber of Commerce of Serbia at the opening of the conference named “Chapter 5 – What Are We Negotiating About?” organized in cooperation with Republic Commission for Protection of Rights in Public Procurement Procedures and Public Procurement Office.

In the presence of numerous representatives of contracting authorities, bidders and expert public, representatives of Republic Commission, Public Procurement Office and Commission for Public Private Partnership explained complete process and activities of these institutions that preceded and contributed to the making of Report on Screening of European Commission, which successfully assessed the public procurement system in Republic of Serbia, without creating special “benchmarks”, i.e. conditions and recommended the Chapter 5 – Public Procurement to be opened. The impending activities have been pointed out, as well as areas within public procurement that need special attention during further process of harmonization with EU acquis, especially with regards to the applying of legal solutions.

It was concluded that mutual cooperation and coordination of all relevant institutions included in negotiation group 5 is necessary, as it will facilitate the entire pre-accession process of Republic of Serbia in this area and contribute to the efficiency in implementation and practical applying of all elements of EU acquis that Serbia is supposed to introduce to its system.
